Kristie Carter, Speech + Language Therapist

kristie.jpg

Kristie decided to become a speech-language pathologist after three of her four children needed speech services in preschool and elementary school. When she was able to participate with her youngest child’s speech therapy in preschool, Kristie realized that having a job as a speech and language therapist was something she would love to pursue herself. When her youngest started first grade, Kristie began classes at Salt Lake Community College and then graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Utah in 2010. While in graduate school at the University of Utah, Kristie experienced working with children and adults with many different needs and received her Master’s Degree for Speech-Language Pathology in 2012.

Kristie completed a clinical externship at The Children’s Center, a well-respected  resource and clinic in Salt Lake City. She was referred by her preceptor there for a job providing private speech therapy in-person and virtually for school-aged children. After completing a clinical externship at the Granite School District, Kristie has made a career working with children in the public school system, where she continues to work today. While at the school district, Kristie has experience using assistive technology devices, working with students who have expressive and receptive language disorders and helping students with articulation disorders. Having worked within both private and public-school speech therapy locations, Kristie understands the needs of each setting and feels that her experience as a parent with children who needed speech services has given her a different perspective as a clinician. It has helped her build strong bonds with the parents of her speech students. Her experience motivates her to do her very best for the children she works with and to find methods and strategies that work for each individual child.

When Kristie is not working as a speech therapist, she is the happiest while spending time with her family, reading or watching the Utah Jazz.
